A quiet shelf or console piece in earthy, neutral rooms.
A studio or workspace object with rough, handmade character.
An addition to a collection of raw, unglazed ceramics.
Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth.
Avoid harsh abrasives, solvents, and prolonged soaking.
Lift by the base rather than the rim, and keep on a stable surface.

A closer look
This is a small hand-built ceramic vessel made of light-colored clay, high-temperature fired, with hand-carved surface texturing. The piece presents a warm pale bone-beige to soft sand tone, with subtle tonal shifts across its surface where the light catches the raised ridges and recedes into the grooves. The body is speckled with fine darker mineral particles and grog-like inclusions that give the clay a natural, slightly granular appearance. The surface is entirely matte and unglazed, with no gloss or reflective coating, absorbing light softly and producing gentle, diffused shadows along the carved lines. The overall character is rustic, wabi-sabi, and earthy, emphasizing raw material honesty over polished perfection.
The silhouette is an organic, slightly irregular cylinder that widens gently toward a flared, everted rim and tapers toward the base. The defining decorative feature is a dense series of horizontal hand-carved ridges and grooves that wrap continuously around the full circumference, producing a ribbed, terraced texture resembling stacked throwing rings. These ridges are intentionally uneven, with varying depth, spacing, and slight wobble that reveal the hand-made carving technique. The rim is thin and slightly undulating, with an uneven wavy edge rather than a machine-perfect circle, reinforcing the artisanal, hand-finished character of the work. The interior wall carries softer concentric throwing lines that mirror the exterior texture.
The piece exhibits pronounced intentional fracture and breakage: a prominent branching crack splits the wall vertically from the rim downward, with missing shard fragments leaving open notches and gaps along both the rim and the lower base edge. The exposed fracture surfaces reveal the raw, denser interior clay body, which reads slightly darker and more granular than the finished outer face. Additional smaller cracks and chipped edges are distributed around the lower body, and a small irregular puncture hole appears in the side wall. These open seams, missing sections, and rough chipped edges are visually consistent with the broken, fragmentary
