A closer look
This handmade footed ceramic bowl is crafted from light-colored clay and finished through high-temperature unglazed firing, leaving the surface bare and matte rather than glassy or coated. The color is a soft off-white to warm cream, close to a pale porcelain white with a faint grayish-beige undertone, and the clay body is lightly speckled with small dark mineral flecks scattered unevenly across the whole form. The finish reads as dry, porous and natural, with no glaze sheen, no color gradient and no applied pigment; the only tonal variation comes from the granular texture of the fired clay itself and from soft shadow catching in the surface irregularities.
The overall silhouette is a wide, open, roughly hemispherical bowl resting on a short, flared pedestal foot. Proportions place the vessel's width at approximately 10.5 centimeters across the rim and its total height at approximately 10.5 to 11 centimeters, giving it a compact, nearly equal width-to-height profile. The wall tapers downward from the broad rim to a narrower waist, which then spreads into a stepped, trumpet-like foot that widens again toward the base. The rim itself is deliberately irregular rather than perfectly circular, carrying the loose, spontaneous character of hand-thrown or hand-built work, and the profile is not strictly symmetrical, with slight variations in wall thickness, roundness and rim level from one side to the other.
Decorating the exterior are closely spaced horizontal throwing ridges or coil lines that encircle the bowl from just beneath the rim down through the upper two-thirds of the body, gradually fading as the form narrows toward the foot. These parallel bands are soft-edged and slightly uneven in depth and spacing, clearly hand-formed rather than mechanically machined, and they create a fine corded or ribbed relief that shifts subtly in brightness as light rakes across the curved wall. The interior surface continues this concentric ring pattern in a more subdued, shallower form, so the spiral or coil construction remains visible inside the vessel all the way down toward the base, confirming the hand-worked origin of the piece.
Close inspection shows a number of naturally occurring, irregular surface characteristics rather than polished perfection. Fine hairline crack lines
