This handmade notebook has a cover of dark blue handwoven cloth with a slightly coarse texture, finished with raw, frayed edges for a rustic look. A padded appliqué in the shape of a stylized whale or fish, cut from lighter blue fabric, sits on the front, secured by visible white and dark blue hand-stitching that gives it a subtle three-dimensional feel. A brown elastic band wraps from the back and fastens over a fabric-covered button on the front to keep it closed.

Stitched binding along the spine, also wrapped in the handwoven cloth, holds 96 sheets (192 pages) that alternate between light brown kraft paper and smooth, off-white Dowling paper.
