A closer look
The necklace consists of a sculptural pendant suspended from a metallic chain, built around a winged guardian figure in a deeply introverted pose. The pendant body presents a crouched, seated form with knees drawn up toward the chest and arms wrapped around the legs, creating a closed, rounded core at the center of the composition. From this compact torso, a pair of large wings sweeps outward and downward on both sides, giving the piece a broad, roughly shield-shaped or leaf-shaped outline that tapers to two long, blade-like feather points at the lowest extremities. The wings are built in layered, overlapping rows of individually modeled feathers, with the upper portions showing fine, close-set primary feathering and the lower portions graduating into elongated, sharply pointed flight feathers that project well below the figure's feet. Symmetry is deliberate across the vertical axis, with the left and right wings mirroring one another in span and feather layering, while the figure's head remains centered above the interlaced arms.
The surface treatment alternates between deep shadowed recesses and bright specular highlights. In the recesses between feathers, behind the arms, and around the neck and head, the metal has a darkened, blackened, oxidized appearance that reads almost charcoal-black, which is then interrupted by mirror-polished high points along the leading edges of the wings, the crown and shoulders of the head, the forearms, and the knuckles. This contrast of matte darkened relief against high-gloss raised surfaces gives the sculpture strong graphic legibility and emphasizes the depth of the carving. The finish appears smooth and glassy on the polished planes, with the rougher, darker texture confined to the recessed carving lines. The figure's head is rounded and featureless in silhouette, framed by a curved, crown-like or halo-like structure above it, which serves as the visual transition from the figure into the pendant's suspension hardware.
The suspension element is a substantial, oversized bail formed as a thick, rounded loop with a heavy, slightly tapered profile. Its outer face is polished to a reflective sheen, while its inner channel and lower joint blend into the crown of the pendant, giving the bail a sculptural, integrated look rather than a separate ring. The bail's opening is wide and deep, accommodating a chain with generous clearance and allowing the pendant to hang freely and swing on a single point. No gemstones, enamel, plating accents, or inlaid elements are visible on the pendant; the entire piece reads as a single-tone metallic object, relying entirely on relief carving and polish contrast for visual interest.
