The subject is a freestanding mechanical insect sculpture, resembling a stylized ant or mantis assembled entirely from repurposed mechanical hardware and precision components. The overall construction gives the impression of a steampunk or clockwork-robotic art piece, with a segmented body built from stacked watch dials, miniature gears, cogs, and layered metal plates. From the top-down view, the arrangement is broadly symmetrical along the body axis, with mirrored legs, mirrored antennae, and a paired wing set, while the profile views reveal an asymmetrical, articulated pose as if the creature is mid-stride. The sculpture is compact enough to sit on a tabletop, a display book, or a serving tray, and it stands on six slender articulated legs that terminate in open forked claw-like feet made from polished silver-tone segments and small hinge joints.
The head is dominated by two large, highly glossy black domed eyes with mirror-like specular highlights, set into a dark metal cradle. A small gold-tone shield-shaped plate, secured with visible tiny screws, is mounted on the front of the head, giving the face a visor-like mask. Protruding from the head are two long, straight, tapered antennae in a warm gold or brass tone, angled upward and slightly outward in a V shape. Black rubber-like tubing curves around the body in a loop, and small hex nuts, bolts, and screw heads punctuate the joints. Toward the rear, a short cylindrical chamber wrapped in a translucent yellow-green material with internal segmentation glows or reads as a luminous band, ending in a polished silver cap, suggesting a stylized bioluminescent tail or abdomen segment. Two large elliptical wings extend from the mid-body; each wing is formed from a single continuous wire wound into a tight, even spiral that thins toward the tips, finished in a warm copper-bronze tone with a light reflective sheen, giving the impression of delicate, almost transparent insect wings while remaining purely metallic.
The legs are built from small silver-tone rod segments connected by ball-and-socket-like joints and threaded collars, interspersed with tiny coiled springs and multi-colored bands in brass, green, and dark bronze.
