A closer look
This is a handcrafted leather glove-strap style key fob, built in a vintage American and Japanese-inspired rugged workwear aesthetic. Its main body is cut from a single thick strap of top-grain cowhide described as English-imported bridle or stirrup leather, said to be among the finest leathers available, with a rich, oily, waxed hand feel and a deeply saturated dark brown, nearly black, color. The grain side carries a soft satin-to-glossy sheen where the finish catches the light, showing subtle natural surface variation, faint hair-cell texture and minor tonal shifts, while the cut edges are left natural and untreated, revealing the pale tan to caramel-colored fibrous core of the hide against the darker finished surface. The strap measures approximately 4.5 millimeters thick and the overall assembly is about 13.5 centimeters long, scaled to be held comfortably in the palm as shown between the fingers for size reference.
The leather is constructed as a folded loop: the strap is bent back on itself so the pointed, tapered tongue passes through a long, rounded oblong slot cut into the upper layer, then secured near the tip by a small domed brass stud post that acts as a button closure, its round gold-toned head sitting flush above a narrow slit. The tongue and slot form a symmetrical, elongated almond outline, tapering to soft rounded points at the tip and widening toward the base, echoing the traditional strap-and-stud closures found on classic riding tack and glove gauntlets. No stitching is visible anywhere on the piece; instead the assembly relies on the leather's own thickness and rigidity plus riveted hardware, giving it a clean, sturdy, minimalist tack-like construction. The cut edges appear lightly burnished but retain their raw, suede-fuzzy fibrous texture along the inner faces of the fold, with the lighter flesh-side color clearly visible where the layers separate.
At the base, the leather narrows into a small folded tab that loops around and rivets through a pair of copper or brass rivets with round caps, pinching the strap into a snug channel. Hinged through this tab is a solid brass horseshoe-shaped shackle snap, a classic equestrian-style hook with a curved U-shaped body, a rounded bulb at the top of the gate and a cross-pin closure with a small drilled eyelet, its surface showing the warm yellow-gold luster of solid brass with slight hand-worn patina in the recesses. The snap's gate pivots freely, allowing the hardware to clip onto belt loops, bags or belt keepers.
Suspended from the shackle is a cluster of brass split key rings, several thin, tightly coiled gold-toned rings grouped together for holding multiple keys, their polished edges catching bright specular highlights. Dangling from one of these rings is a circular leather fob tag made from the same dark top-grain hide, edged with the natural tan cut side exposed, and carrying an
