Unglazed Stoneware Planter Bowl
- Deep umber and taupe brown threaded with pale flecks
- Dense raised grains with a rough, sandpaper-like matte tooth
- Three faint horizontal throwing lines just below the rim
Type: Handmade stoneware planter bowl
Materials: Natural clay, high-fired stoneware
Finish / color: Unglazed matte; mottled earth tones with bone white and grey-beige speckles
The bowl works as a planting vessel on a windowsill, shelf, or tabletop, and sits comfortably alongside other earth-toned ceramics. Its footprint is roughly the span of an open palm, wide and low rather than tall.
Display it on a windowsill with ferns or succulents.
Group it with other matte, unglazed pottery.
Use it as a tabletop centerpiece for low greenery.
Set it on a shelf where its grainy texture catches light.
Wipe the surface with a dry, soft cloth to lift dust.
Rinse with plain water when needed and let it dry fully.
Store away from harsh cleaners and abrasive scrubbing pads.
Because each bowl is hand-worked, expect small variations in the rim, grain, and tonal pattern from piece to piece.

A closer look
This is a handmade stoneware planter bowl formed from natural clay and fired at high temperature, with no glaze applied to any surface. The unglazed finish leaves the raw clay body fully exposed, producing an open, highly breathable structure across the entire piece. Because no glaze layer seals the walls, the material remains porous from rim to base, both inside and out.
Visually, the bowl carries a rich, mottled earth-tone palette: a base of deep umber and warm taupe brown threaded with dense speckles of pale bone white, grey-beige and faint sand-coloured flecks. These granular inclusions sit proud of the surface in countless small raised grains, giving the exterior a rough, abrasive, sandpaper-like tooth that scatters light rather than reflecting it. The overall effect is completely matte with no sheen or gloss anywhere, and the tonal variation reads as natural mineral variation rather than applied decoration, with subtle darker patches in the recesses between grains and lighter dusting across the raised high points.
The silhouette is a wide, rounded basin with a gently swelling profile that curves inward toward a smaller base, producing a soft hemispherical bowl shape. Just below the rim, three faint horizontal throwing lines or grooves wrap around the upper exterior, marking the coil-built construction and adding a restrained linear detail against the heavy grain of the body. The rim itself is thick and slightly irregular, with a coarse, crumbly edge finish typical of hand-worked stoneware, while the interior wall is smoother and more even than the exterior, still visibly granular but far less pronounced
