Uruguayan Amethyst Geode with Large Crystal Points
- Dense interlocking quartz points with hexagonal prismatic terminations
- Graduated lavender, violet, and deep near-black purple tones
- Rough charcoal-gray shell edged with concentric agate banding
Type: Natural amethyst geode specimen
Dimensions / Size: About 4.0 in (10.1 cm) by 3.6 in (9.2 cm) by 3.0 in (7.6 cm)
Materials: Natural quartz amethyst crystals in a rock and agate shell
Finish / color: Matte rough exterior; glossy interior crystals, pale lilac to near-black purple
This is a display or collectible piece rather than a wearable one, resting on its flat, weighty base. It sits happily alongside other mineral specimens, and at roughly the span of an adult palm it works well as a single focal piece.
Shelf or cabinet display
Collectors' mineral arrangement
Desk, study, or entryway accent
Quiet corner for reading or reflection
Dust with a soft, dry brush; avoid water and cleaners.
Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the depth of color.
Handle gently and store away from harder stones to prevent chips.
Natural growth striations, cotton-like white inclusions, ice-crack veils, and small pits or irregular terminations are visible throughout, and the agate banding at the shell rim separates the outer rock from the purple crystal layer.

A closer look
This is a natural amethyst geode specimen, identified as a Uruguayan purple golden cave geode, with notably large crystal points. The piece is composed of a solid rock shell that opens into a central hollow cavity lined with a dense formation of interlocking quartz crystals. The exterior shell is a rough, matte natural rock with a dark charcoal-to-brownish gray coloration, while the interior crystals are faceted and glossy, showing the classic hexagonal prismatic termination habit of natural quartz. The overall silhouette is an upright, roughly trapezoidal or arch-shaped form, wider at the base and tapering slightly toward a rounded top.
Coloration across the crystal bed is strongly graduated. The outermost crystals near the shell rim display a pale lilac to translucent lavender, almost colorless in some points, with clear vitreous luster and sharp reflective highlights on their flat terminations. Moving inward toward the cavity, the purple deepens progressively into medium violet, rich purple, and finally a very dark, near-black purple at the deepest recesses, where light penetration is minimal. The transition is not uniform, so the specimen shows a mottled, layered color gradient rather than a single flat tone, giving it considerable depth and contrast when viewed from the front.
Close inspection reveals the natural internal characteristics typical of genuine amethyst. Within the crystals there are faint cotton-like white inclusions, subtle internal fractures and ice-crack veils, small mineral pits, and rough mineral skin along the shell edge. Some crystal faces show growth striations, and a few of the larger points exhibit small natural chips or irregular terminations rather than perfectly clean geometric faces. These features are inherent to natural crystal formations. The shell rim in the side view shows distinct concentric agate banding — thin alternating layers of white, gray, blue-gray, and translucent chalcedony — marking the transition between the outer host rock and the crystal-lined interior, with a thin dark band separating the agate from the purple crystal layer.
The specimen is free-standing, resting on its flat, weighty base, and is designed as a display or collectible mineral piece rather than a wearable item. Measured directly with a digital caliper, the piece registers approximately 101.1 mm along one axis, approximately 91.7 mm along a second axis, and approximately 76
