Miniature Woven Rattan Cradle with Lace Canopy
A closer look
This miniature doll furniture piece is a handcrafted wicker baby carriage, also functioning as a crib, cradle, or pet bed for small dolls. The primary construction material is a light beige, natural-toned woven wicker or rattan, featuring a tight, uniform over-under weave pattern that provides structural integrity and a classic rustic aesthetic. The surface texture of the wicker is matte with a slight organic grain, characteristic of natural plant fibers. The overall shape is an elongated oval or boat-like form, with a raised, arched canopy at one end that is supported by thin wicker ribs. The dimensions of the item are specified as 10.6 cm in length and approximately 7.6 cm in width, making it a compact accessory suitable for small-scale dollhouse settings.
The design is heavily embellished with delicate white lace fabric, which adds a vintage, romantic style to the piece. A ruffled lace trim lines the entire upper rim of the wicker basket, creating a soft, frilly edge that contrasts with the rigid structure of the weave. The canopy is draped with a sheer, floral-patterned lace veil that hangs down from the arch, featuring intricate embroidered motifs and scalloped edges. In some views, a small white lace bow with a central pearl-like accent is visible on the front of the canopy, serving as a decorative focal point. The interior of the carriage is lined with a matching fabric cushion or pillow, which features a printed pattern of small animals, possibly rabbits or bunnies, in soft pastel colors, enhancing the nursery theme.
The craftsmanship is noted as being purely handmade, with visible signs of manual construction that contribute to its unique, artisanal character. The joining of the wicker elements and the attachment of the lace trim show the precision required for such miniature work. The item is designed for use with specific doll types, including Blythe dolls, BJD (Ball-Jointed Dolls), and other small-scale figures such as OB22 and OB24 dolls. It serves as a versatile prop for dollhouse displays, functioning as a sleeping area, a carrier, or a decorative element. The color palette is dominated by the natural beige of the wicker and the crisp white of the lace, with subtle hints of pink and green from the interior fabric print, creating a cohesive and gentle visual appeal.
The structural details include a sturdy base that allows the carriage to stand upright on a flat surface. The canopy arch is integrated seamlessly into the wicker frame, providing both aesthetic appeal and functional coverage. The lace veil is attached to the top of the arch and drapes down the sides, offering a sense of enclosure and protection. The interior space is sufficiently deep to accommodate a small doll or a plush toy, with the included pillow providing a soft resting place. The overall finish is clean and well-executed, with the lace edges neatly trimmed and the wicker weave consistent throughout the body of the carriage. This piece represents a high level of detail and attention to miniature scale, making it a distinctive addition to a doll collection.
