A closer look
This is a fifth-generation handcrafted leather sleeve designed to house a Cricket brand disposable lighter. The sleeve is built from imported first-layer cowhide leather, showing a classic warm brown base tone with natural grain character and a slightly pebbled, vintage-textured surface that carries a soft, low-sheen finish rather than a high gloss. The leather reads as dense and firm, with subtle tonal variation across its surface where the dye has taken to the hide unevenly, giving it an aged, mellow patina. The lighter sits snugly inside the pocket, its white body and black plastic cap with the printed white "Cricket" lettering protruding from the open top, illustrating the tight, form-fitting profile of the case.
Across the front face of the sleeve runs a broad woven panel made from natural undyed vegetable-tanned leather lacing. The lacing is cut into flat, even strips and laid in a diagonal basketweave pattern, with the strips interlocking at right angles to create a raised, three-dimensional texture. The natural tan of the lacing creates a strong contrast against the darker brown leather beneath it, and where the strips cross, slight shadows and highlights emphasize the layered construction. The weave is centered on the pocket face and follows the tapering silhouette of the case, widening slightly at the midsection before narrowing toward the lower edge.
Construction details are finished with hand-sewn stitching in a cream or off-white waxed thread, visible as evenly spaced slanted saddle stitches running around the perimeter of both panels and along the edges of the opening. The stitch line sits just inside the cut edge, following the shaped outline of the sleeve, which features gently curved side profiles, an angular notched lower corner, and a squared-off base. The layered edge shows the stacked leather thickness clearly, and the corners are rounded and finished, with the darker burnished edge tone visible where the leather has been sealed. Minor handmade variations are evident in the stitch tension and the way the woven strips terminate, consistent with a piece assembled by hand rather than by industrial production.
Attached at the upper side corner through a reinforced loop is a braided leather lanyard ornament. The cord is made from the same natural vegetable-tanned lacing material, tightly braided into a rounded, rope-like strand with visible interlocking loops, secured by a hand-tied knot at its lower end. From that knot, several long raw-edge leather fringe strands extend freely, each strand showing slightly fibrous, unfinished sides and a pale natural tan color. The entire lanyard assembly acts as a decorative side accent and also functions as a graspable pull, adding an additional hanging attachment point for carrying or securing the lighter.
Functionally, the case is offered in brand-new condition and is precisely shaped to fit the Cricket style lighter shown, while remaining compatible with disposable lighters of similar dimensions. The close-fitting walls grip the body of the lighter, protecting its surface from scratches, scuffs, and marks while helping to prevent it from slipping out and being lost.
