This is a Louise Carmen style A5S/TN standard notebook cover crafted from vegetable-tanned cowhide in a deep, saturated red. The leather is described as having a moderate thickness with a soft hand, and it is an uncoated, non-dyed-through vegetable-tanned hide that is naturally absorbent to water and oil. The surface exhibits a fine, natural grain with subtle tonal variations, ranging from a bright crimson where light catches the surface to a deeper, darker red in shadowed areas. The leather is not heavily oily, and it is expected to gradually develop a richer, more supple patina with use over time. Natural pores and minor surface marks are inherent characteristics of the original hide rather than defects.
The notebook cover is designed in a tri-fold configuration, with a rectangular silhouette and rounded corners. A thin, red elastic cord wraps horizontally around the middle of the cover to secure it closed, passing through two small, silver-toned metal eyelets positioned on the front panel. The stitching is executed in a matching red thread, running along the edges and the spine with a consistent, fine stitch density. The edges of the leather are left raw and unfinished, revealing the natural, lighter tan color of the leather's cross-section, which contrasts with the dyed red exterior. The interior of the cover features a large, flat pocket panel in the same red leather, stitched along three sides to create a sleeve for holding inserts.
The interior of the cover is lined with the natural, undyed flesh side of the cowhide, which has a soft, suede-like texture and a warm, light tan color. This interior surface shows the natural fiber structure of the leather. The spine area features a series of small, evenly spaced metal eyelets through which multiple red elastic cords are threaded, allowing for the insertion and removal of notebook refills. The cords are knotted together in the center of the spine, and the ends are left long for adjustment. The overall construction is clean and precise, with straight stitching lines and well-fitted components.
The notebook is designed to accommodate inserts with a page size of 210mm by 110mm. The cover includes one leather shell and one matching notebook refill. Additionally, a spare elastic cord measuring 2 meters in length is provided. The elastic cord ends are intentionally left long, allowing the user to trim them to their preferred length and seal the cut ends with a flame for a clean finish. The binding cords shown in the images are displayed in a loosened state, and the tension can be adjusted by the user after receiving the item.
