A closer look
A handmade decorative display case constructed from imported pine wood is presented. The case measures 30 centimeters in length, 22.5 centimeters in width, and 11 centimeters in depth. It features a rectangular frame with a glass front panel, secured by an ornate, antique-style metal latch on the side. The wooden surface exhibits a warm, natural brown tone with visible grain patterns and a matte finish.
The interior contains a curated arrangement of natural specimens. A prominent feature is a weathered animal skull with two large, spiraled horns. The bone displays a palette of off-white, beige, and tan, with visible suture lines and a porous texture. The horns show distinct, deep ridges; one horn is primarily a natural tan color, while the other has patches of faded blue pigment adhered to its textured surface. Nestled beside the skull is a small, constructed bird's nest composed of dried twigs, grasses, green and brown moss, and fine, fibrous material.
Within the nest rest three small bird eggs. Their shells are a creamy off-white base color, heavily mottled with irregular spots and splotches in dark brown, grey, and black. Scattered throughout the scene are additional natural elements, including dried pinecones of various sizes, preserved green and brown fern fronds, delicate dried flowers in shades of pale pink and white, and dried leaves. A dark butterfly specimen with white spots on its wings is also visible amongst the foliage.
The overall composition is arranged with a natural, slightly asymmetrical aesthetic, evoking a style reminiscent of vintage scientific displays or wabi-sabi artistry. The items are layered to create depth within the confined space of the case. The glass cover protects the contents while allowing clear visibility, and the entire piece is designed to function as wall-mounted decor.
