Item details

Material: Bamboo

This is a large, oval-shaped bamboo cage designed for housing singing insects like katydids. It is handcrafted from three-year-old bamboo, with a natural light tan finish and visible longitudinal grain that gives it a clean, traditional look.

The cage features a minimalist design with a matte surface on the polished parts and a slightly rawer texture on the cut ends of the strips. Its compact, handheld size makes it a practical choice for hobbyists who keep larger insect species.

Key features:
- Oval shape with a distinct top lid and matching bottom base
- Vertical bamboo slats spaced evenly for ventilation and security
- Curved internal shelf provides a climbing or resting area

Size & Materials
Type: Insect cage
Dimensions: 101 mm (4.0 in) high; base 70 by 90 mm (2.8 by 3.5 in)
Thickness: Vertical slats 2 mm (0.08 in) diameter
Materials: Three-year-old bamboo
Finish: Natural matte, light tan to warm amber

Fit & styling notes
This cage is suitable for large individual singing insects such as katydids, but not for smaller varieties like bamboo crickets due to the bar spacing. It fits comfortably in the palm of an adult hand, making it easy to move around.

Occasions
- Everyday housing for a pet katydid
- Displaying a singing insect in a home or study
- Observing insect behavior up close
- Gifting to an insect-keeping enthusiast

Care
- Wipe clean with a dry, soft cloth to remove dust
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent drying
- Store in a dry place to maintain the bamboo’s natural integrity

Handmade note
This cage is crafted through pure manual work, so slight variations in grain and tone are natural and add to its character.
