A closer look
This is a handcrafted A7-format leather ring-binder notebook cover, built around a 62 by 127 millimeter internal page format. The cover is cut from Buttero leather in the Museum shade, a deep, saturated dark forest green that reads almost black-green in shadow and lifts toward a rich emerald where light skims the surface. The grain is fine, dense and naturally pebbled, with the subtle tonal mottling and soft satin sheen characteristic of vegetable-tanned Buttero, giving the flat panels a quiet, non-reflective glow rather than a high-gloss lacquer finish. Across the broad front panel the color shifts gently between darker bottle-green recesses and slightly lighter, warmer olive-green highs, a natural variation in the hide rather than any printed pattern.
The construction is a two-fold bi-fold design with a straight, squared-off spine, so the cover sits flat and holds a clean rectangular silhouette when closed. All edges are hand-finished: the leather is saddle-stitched by hand with a light, contrasting waxed thread that forms evenly slanted, regularly pitched stitches running parallel to every perimeter edge, including the top edge, bottom edge, both cover edges, the flap edges and the keeper patch. Both faces of the leather were pricked with a stitching chisel before sewing, producing the tidy, uniform stitch alignment visible on both the exterior and the interior faces. The cut edges are sanded and burnished to a smooth, sealed edge paint in a brighter teal-emerald green, creating a distinctive bright piping line around the darker green body that defines the outline of the cover and the keeper.
Closure is provided by a wide, flat woven elastic band in matte black, with a fine twill weave texture and a tight, dense corded surface. The band passes over the front cover and is retained by a small rectangular leather keeper made from the same Museum green Buttero, stitched in place with the same contrasting hand saddle stitching and finished with the same bright green burnished edge. The band slides along the cover to adjust tension, holding the closed notebook securely while leaving the leather faces unobstructed.
